I have taken to cycling around Norwich taking photos of roof-lines. I have become a bit obsessed. Anyway, this is my version of Norwich. It's not an accurate representation - the real Norwich is far more magical.
Hi MollyP They have a Gherkin in Norritch? Anyway, I like the artwork because it reminds me of you...tons of colourful interesting things squashed in one place and bursting to get out.
Hi KenD...I don't think it even has a name or nickname that pointy thing because you can only see it from about two places in Norritch. They put it on top of the new Mall and everyone went a) where is it? and b) what is it meant to be? and then merrily proceeded to ignore it. Thank you KenD for your comparison. I do think I burst out less than I'd like to!!!
Hi Mark. Thank you too. It's the end of the colour spectrum I always use. I need to break out.
Real pretty work there, work with character, and personality that shouts... the kind of work which Dr. Seuss would be blue, violet, *and* green with envy about.
Very cool. I have to admit to having an odd fascination with Norwich rooftops myself (the Colman road shops are my fave), which I've always assumed was my own personal madness.
You've done a wonderful job of capturing the variety.
I was clearing out some old files on my computer and came across this. I wrote it in about 1999 (back when people still wrote cheques) predominantly to take the p*** out of a teaching colleague that was the opposite end of this particular spectrum to me! He took it as the silly, light-hearted bit of fun it was meant to be, but he did actually score nearly full marks. We are still friends and he's a headteacher now. Just shows you how far a bit of anal retention can take one. *************************************************** DEFINITION A popular term for “anal retentive personality,” a personality marked by excessive orderliness, extreme meticulousness, and often suspicion and reserve. According to psychoanalysis, an anal personality is formed in early childhood as a result of efforts to control bowel movements. *************************************************** Now tell me, does anal retention *increase with age? *really make life easier? *have very strong links to the need to b...
My father was prone to angry outbursts! By that I mean that whether he was feeling humiliated, vulnerable, fearful, powerless, disappointed, anxious, hurt, misunderstood or many other emotions, he was quick to express only anger – loudly, suddenly and aggressively, and always towards others. On first consideration I might conclude this was because my father received standard conditioning that gave the message that anger was one of the few emotions acceptable for males to express. After all, it feels powerful, in control, shouts, ‘pay attention to my issues now!’ and it can railroad situations that might more appropriately require time-consuming, empathetic and delicate attention – possibly attributes more commonly expected of the female arena! (Sorry about the generalisations! Of course I know there are always exceptions!) But it’s also worth considering: it probably does feel easier to experience and express anger outwardly than many other emotions. For example, many years...
I didn't mean this to be a long post. I got carried away (see enthusiasm badge). This is me messing around (forte) with one of the more silly creative thinking ideas from my book Outside the Box (9-11). In the book, I ask kids to make up what a person would have to do to achieve a set of silly badges (much like buy scout/girl guide badges). Here are a couple of examples that I give.... ******************************* Great irritator’s badge 1) Irritate three different people in the same day and ask them to sign a piece of paper that will prove you irritated them. 2) Make up an irritation questionnaire that explores what irritates people. 3) Make up three really irritating sounds and irritate at least three different people with them. 4) Keep an irritation diary for one week and list all the things you have seen that have irritated people. You must list at least eight things. 5) Tell the badge collector what you think is the most irritating thing in the world and why you think it is...

I like that too - it's almost an exercise in how to use three dominant colours.

ReplyDeleteEric - thank you. You have such a unique way of putting things (not to mention a huge knowledge base on which you draw!!!!!)

Colman Road Shops?
ReplyDeleteDominoes, Papa Johns, Bits and Pieces (or whatever it's called) Boots and McColls? Do you mean there?????????
Yes insanity.
Well I was thinking of the ones near the Avenues, the roofs are all angled in a cool way...
ReplyDeleteI'll just get back in my padded cell. :P
Aha. I have not been struck by those gems in particular. I might take my camera and investigate.
ReplyDeleteDo you live near ish me then Andy?
I'm on Meadow Rise!!
Ooh, Molly that's beautiful!
ReplyDeletePearl
Winter Road, nearer the Fat Cat/Belle Vue (because all good geography is pub based). The semi regular walk to UEA just happens to take me that way.
ReplyDeleteAhah - I used to be on Cardiff Road in the Welsh quarter but it feels like we have moved to the suburbs now!
ReplyDeleteThank you Pearl. I put it on Facebook and a few people have asked for prints. Perhaps it's my future there in purple, green and blue!
